An artistic project aimed at documenting and preserving the oral heritage of the Levant region and reimagining it in a contemporary form that appeals to new generations across the Arab world. The project seeks to strengthen the connection between the peoples of the Levant and their roots through methods that combine training in writing and visual production, and the creation of heritage-based visual content that highlights our customs, traditions, and heritage. This is achieved by reviving the role of storytelling in society and its connection to shaping concepts and aspirations for future generations. Khararif began in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, as an effort by the founding team to reconnect with their Arab surroundings and break the isolation experienced by young people in Jerusalem. Over time, the initiative expanded to include the broader Levant region, recognizing that exploring the history of the area leads us from Jerusalem to the deep-rooted connections between Palestine and the Levant.
