An independent cultural and artistic collective, “Itar” was founded in Jerusalem in 2021 and works to support and empower Palestinian artists across various visual disciplines. The group seeks to create a free and safe space for artistic production, based on collaboration and knowledge exchange, while strengthening the presence of young artists in the local cultural scene. Itar focuses on building a cultural infrastructure through organizing solo and group exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and artist residency programs that respond to the needs of Palestinian artists and help break the cultural isolation imposed on Jerusalem. The core of Itar consists of a group of artists and cultural coordinators, accompanied by a team of young volunteers from diverse artistic backgrounds. The collective believes in art as a tool of resistance, a space for expression, and a platform for open critical dialogue that engages with the social and political transformations of Palestinian society, and relies on culture as an effective path toward building a free society.
