“Architects of the Naqab” is an initiative that seeks to address architectural and spatial challenges in the unrecognized villages through design, construction, and planning. In collaboration with the Regional Council for the Unrecognized Villages and village representatives, the initiative develops advanced surveying mechanisms to produce accurate maps of these communities, which are absent from official and global maps. Within this framework, a local shelter model has been developed to provide protection for residents of the Naqab during times of war and aerial attacks, amid a complete absence of infrastructure or protection systems in more than fifty villages. Alongside emergency solutions, the initiative also considers long-term approaches. It reexamines the materials currently in use—materials that cannot withstand the reality of demolitions and do not meet the basic human need for a dignified life—and seeks to develop suitable material and functional alternatives. The initiative’s team organizes an annual architectural exhibition in the Wadi Atir area, showcasing the new materials and techniques developed through the team’s work and highlighting the importance of the maps produced to date.
